The story thus far:

History:
Mornington Peninsula Disabled Surfers Association branch formed in November 2011.
40 members of our local community turned up to our initial public meeting to express their support for starting a MP branch - including local MP,s surfers, Disabled and Public Health Groups.
A well balanced committee of 14 from varied background formed an interim committee - Four from different Disability/Disability Support Groups, Surfers, Non Surfers, Disabled Representative, School teachers and Health Professionals. All with the same goal - to unite our community by giving disabled people the opportunity to have a safe surfing experience and the members of our community the opportunity to help.
The Disabled Surfers Association of Australia (A charity run purely by volunteers) has 15 Branches across Australia and has been operating for over 26 years; The Mornington Peninsula DSA Branch formed in November 2011.

DSAMP Branch Objectives:
1) We aim to offer a Disabled Surfers Association Event in 2012. The DSAA motto is to "Put smiles on dials", that is to provide a safe, and enjoyable surfing experience for people with any disability.
2) We aim to provide disabled members with greater access to the beaches year round.
3) We also aim to unite our local community, businesses, able and disabled residents with this event.

What can you and your organisation do to help?
1) Take out a DSAMP Sponsorship Package: Register for one of our sponsorship packages Note: We anticipate our event will have 200-400 people attending + coverage in local newspapers.
2) "Train the Helper Day" Sat Feb 4th, 2012 9am-2pm at Point Leo - no cost just rock up with your wetsuit on the day. This is run by DSAA professionals is free and you will receive a Level 1 DSA "TtH" Certificate on the day. (We are aiming for 200 people to attend - this will train people to help participants on the 'Community Day for Disabled Surfers'.

3) "DSAMP 'Community Day for Disabled Surfers' Saturday - March 17th, 2012.

Equipment Donations:
1) As you might imagine these events require a lot of equipment to stage from a gear trailor, to marquees, booties, wetsuits, BBQ's, food and refreshments to the day.
